Food manufacturers, processors and their suppliers need a documented food safety system for their customers, their certification body and the FDA. The new A.P. Lyon Food Safety Management System provides one, written in the same practical style as our medical device and ISO 9001 systems.

What's in the Food Safety Management System

  • Built on ISO 22000:2018. A Food Safety Management System Manual that shows how each clause is met, with procedures, forms and a master document list that reference each other.

  • FSSC 22000 and FDA mapped in. The FSSC 22000 additional requirements, including the Version 7 additions, and FDA 21 CFR 117 Preventive Controls for Human Food are cross-referenced in the manual and built into the procedures, so one set of documents serves both.

  • A working food safety plan. The Food Safety Plan and HACCP Workbook is a 10-sheet Excel file for the product description, process steps, hazard analysis with automatic scoring, CCP and OPRP plan, FSMA preventive controls, supply-chain program and verification schedule.

  • Editable files. Every document is a Word or Excel file you can run on paper or import into your eQMS.

The complete system

Food Safety Management System — Complete, $1,295. The manual, the HACCP workbook, 57 procedures and 104 forms, with PDF copies of the manual and every procedure. It covers leadership and food safety culture, prerequisite programs, allergen management, environmental monitoring, hazard analysis and validation, the hazard control plan, food defense, food fraud, suppliers, traceability, recall, verification and improvement. View the complete system.

Or build your own

Every procedure is also sold on its own, from $29 to $99, along with the manual ($99) and the HACCP workbook ($149). In Build Your QMS, choose Food Safety, pick the procedures you need and mark the ones you already have. Volume discounts apply automatically: 20% off 5 to 9 documents, 35% off 10 to 19, 50% off 20 to 39 and 60% off 40 or more. You can also browse the Food Safety procedures.

Before you implement

Adapt the documents to your site, products and markets, and confirm the statutory and regulatory requirements that apply to you. A Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) or other qualified person should review the food safety plan for your facility. The download supplies documentation; it does not certify your organization or replace validation and testing.

Which family fits your organization?

  • Food Safety Management System: food manufacturers, processors and their suppliers working to ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 or FDA 21 CFR 117.

  • ISO 9001 QMS: manufacturers and suppliers working toward ISO 9001:2026 certification.

  • ISO 13485 QMS: medical device companies working to ISO 13485 and FDA QMSR.

  • Dual-Standard QMS: organizations certified to both ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 that want one integrated set of documents.

HACCP Plan vs FSMA Food Safety Plan

A HACCP plan controls hazards at critical control points. An FSMA food safety plan goes further, adding allergen, sanitation and supply-chain controls, a recall plan and PCQI oversight.
