Lockout - Tagout Procedure

Use this editable Lockout–Tagout Procedure to document control of hazardous energy before machinery or equipment is serviced or maintained. It covers isolation, lockout or tagout, verification and return to operation.

The written program covers shutdown preparation, isolation of energy sources, application of the appropriate lockout or tagout devices, control of stored energy and verification before servicing begins. It also addresses release of the equipment, group work, outside contractors, training and periodic review of the program. Those steps let facilities staff document who controls the equipment during maintenance and how it is safely returned to operation.

The revised procedure references OSHA's control-of-hazardous-energy requirements in 29 CFR 1910.147.
